As an avid Google+ user, I've seen people complain about the asynchronous following method, while others sing its praises. However, if you're really trying to do some self- or brand-promotion, you probably want to know when followers lose their interest.
Circloscope is an extension for Google Chrome that allows you to quickly see who isn't following you back on Google+. It's very similar to the countless tools that show you unfollows on Twitter, except it doesn't report them to you every time it happens -- you have to check it on your own time. While this may seem less convenient, it can also be argued that getting random or even weekly updates about unfollowers may not be as effective. By choosing when you look at your connections on Google+, you have the ability to check as often as you like, especially after sharing something of importance. Here's how to get started:
(Credit: Screenshot by Nicole Cozma/CNET)Step 1: Open the Chrome Web Store entry for Circloscope Free and click Add to Chrome.
Step 2: Once installed, click the icon for the extension on your Chrome toolbar and choose Circloscope Free. It looks like two green arrows forming a circle, in case you have lots of extensions installed.
(Credit: Screenshot by Nicole Cozma/CNET)Step 3: Choose the circles you do not want to include on the left-hand side. For me, I don't need to include Friends or Tech Streams; Friends I know are following back, and Tech Streams are just newsfeeds for Web sites. Click Apply when you are finished.
The list of people who have not added you to their circles will appear on the right-hand side of the page. You can click each individual name and visit their profile in a new tab.
(Optional) Step 4: Leave check marks next to those you want to remove from your circles, then click the Uncircle button on the left.
